Employee or Retiree - Turning Age 65

Active Employees turning 65 should not apply for Medicare. The coverage elected through MCG will remain their primary insurance until they terminate coverage as an active employee to retire. Retirees and their dependents over the age of 65 years, are required to enroll in Medicare Part A and Part B. At the age of 65 Medicare becomes the primary insurance coverage, Montgomery County becomes the secondary insurance. To prevent gaps in insurance coverage, Retirees and their dependents are required to send a copy of their Medicare card to the Health Insurance Team. The cards can be faxed to 240.777.5131 or mailed to the Health Insurance Team at Executive Office Building, 101 Monroe St., 7th Floor, Rockville, MD 20850.
