Notify the Licensing and Registration Office When a Rental Property is no Longer Rented; Being Re-occupied by the Owner; Vacant/For Sale or Already Sold

To notify the Licensing and Registration Unit that a rental property is no longer rented, being re-occupied by the property owner, vacant, for sale or sold; owners with no outstanding fees or violations can submit changes online by the L&R Online Network with an AccessMCG account. Login to the license record and go to the "General Information" tab to change the License Status to "Exception". DO NOT select "WITHDRAWN". Add the Status Sub-Type to "Not Rented Owner Occupied", or "Vacant/For Sale."

The property owner must send or upload a written notice which includes the date the tenant vacated the property, or the date the owner re-occupied the property or date property was for sale/sold. Notices may be uploaded to the "Documents" tab online, sent by fax at 240.777.3699 or by mail to DHCA, L&R 1401 Rockville Pike, 4th Floor, Rockville, MD 20852.

Finally, you may send an email to: DHCA.Licensing@montgomerycountymd.gov. Please include in the email the following: license number and property address; month/year property was last rented; and if the property was sold, the date sold.

All outstanding fees during the rental period must be paid and refunds are not issued.

Online users who have additional questions that require the expertise of a staff member, please see the topic entitled "Request to Speak with a Licensing and Registration Specialist". Refunds are not issued.
