HIV Treatment and Care

IMPORTANT: If you or a partner have not tested positive for HIV before and think you were exposed to HIV in the last 72 hours (3 days), you can get PEP, a pill that can stop HIV before it takes hold. Don't wait, call or go right away to one of these locations:

    Weekdays, 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, call a county clinic:

  • Evenings/weekends, call the DC PEP hotline, 202.299.3737
  • Go to any hospital emergency room
  • Contact your regular medical provider, if you have one.

PEP must start within 72 hours (3 days) of when you were exposed, every hour counts.

HIV Treatment and Care Information: Montgomery County offers free or low-cost HIV medical care at Dennis Avenue Health Center in Silver Spring. Call 240.777.1869 to get started. We can help with:

  • HIV medical care and medications
  • Help to navigate, medication concerns, benefits, housing, food, transportation, and
  • Dental care
  • Mental health and substance use referrals
  • Virtual and in-person support groups
  • Partner notification

Cost: HIV care at Dennis Avenue is free or low-cost regardless of insurance status or income.

Dental care for people living with HIV: Many people living with HIV face dental problems that are harder to manage without specialized care. Montgomery County provides dental services for HIV patients at Dennis Avenue Health Center, including:

  • Preventive care (cleanings, exams, x-rays)
  • Limited restorative services (fillings, simple repairs)
  • Extractions
  • Oral cancer screening
  • Specialty services such as dentures, root canals, and crowns (as available)
