Earned Income Credit Eligibility

The Earned Income Credit, or EIC, is a credit that is income based and is initiated by filing Maryland income taxes. There is a regular State EIC and a Refundable EIC component. If the taxpayer qualifies for the Refundable EIC from the State of Maryland it will be included with their state income tax refund. To determine if you are eligible for Earned Income Tax Credit, use the EITC Assistant for the tax year being filed on the IRS website, first link below. To determine eligibility for the Maryland EITC, go to second link. The State will then issue and mail out the County?s EIC portion to the resident at a later time, if they are eligible. This is called the Working Families Income Supplement.

To request a change of address or request reissuance of an expired check, the request must be in writing. Click on last link below for the Change of Address Form (hyperlink) and instructions.

Additional information can be obtained by clicking on the State of Maryland website links below. Questions regarding eligibility for either the State or Montgomery County EIC must be addressed to the State of Maryland Office of the Comptroller at: 800.MDTAXES (1.800.638.2937), or 410.260.7980. If the State has been contacted and is referring to the County, and/or if this is a county issue, please send an email to: [email protected].
