Stormwater Management on Private Residential Lots

Montgomery County has a Residential Stormwater Maintenance and Inspection program to work with property owners to assist with maintenance of existing stormwater management systems on private property. ESD Stormwater Management means environmental site designs and landscaping systems that mimic natural hydrology to reduce the volume of stormwater runoff. There are over 6,000 ESD stormwater runoff management practices on residential lots across the County. These SWM practices are typically required as part of subdivision plans and the building permit approval process. The property owner is responsible for ongong maintenance of these practices. Routine maintenance is critical to keep them working so they don't need to be replaced, and to ensure that they function properly an do not create a lot to lot drainage problem. DEP will conduct maintenance inspections to help trouble-shoot practices on private residential lots. A WQPC credit is available for property owners who are maintaining ESD practices.
