Councilmember's are elected every 4 years and take office the first Monday in December. They must be qualified voters in Montgomery County. Seven members are elected by geographic district and must reside in the district they represent. Four members are at-large and are elected by all County voters. The Council officers are elected by the Council from among its members in December for a one-year term.
