Private or business use of a fire hydrant without a WSSC water meter is illegal.
WSSC leases hydrant meters on a temporary basis to individuals and businesses. Using a fire hydrant allows water to be drawn from the public water system although the water does not return to the public sewer system. There are no sewer charges associated with the water that registers on fire hydrant meters. Some examples of use are: filling swimming pools, washing streets or filling tanker trucks.
WSSC FIRE HYDRANT METERS MAY NOT BE USED FOR POTABLE WATER.
