Remote Speed Monitoring

Residents may request deployment of a Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) Speed Monitoring Awareness Radar Trailer (SMART) to inform motorists of the actual speed at which they are traveling on neighborhood streets. MCDOT will deploy this unit on Secondary and Primary Residential roads and occasionally on two lane Arterial roads upon request. This unit is placed on the roadway for a period of up to five (5) days, typically Monday through Friday. The unit is placed facing one direction on Monday, turned to the opposite direction on Wednesday and placed back to the original direction on Friday until its removal later that day. This unit may be requested for a repeat schedule in three months as scheduling allows. It is DOT practice not to deploy this unit on weekends; holidays or from December 15th through January 2nd.

If the road is a numbered route such as MD 355 (Rockville Pike), MD 117 (Clopper Road), please contact Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration at 301.513.7300.
