Application Process for Obtaining a Electrical Contractor's Business License

An application form must be submitted along with a certificate of insurance showing Montgomery County as the certificate holder, with liability limits of: $300,000 for bodily injury, $300,000 for property damage, or a combined single limit of $600,000. A copy of the State of Maryland Business License with the company's registered business name listed on the license must also be submitted.

Please note that all Electrical Contractors Business license applications must list a Master Electrician who is licensed in Montgomery County. If the Master Electrician is not licensed in Montgomery County, the Master Electrician must apply in order for the Business license to be issued. A Electrical Contractors Business license will not be issued without a Master Electrician. The Board of Electrical Examiners reviews the application and supporting documents for accuracy and approves or disapproves the application. Please see the DPS Licensing page to view detailed PDF of the Procedure for electrical business license application process.
