Grocery Store Alcohol Sales

Maryland State law prohibits alcohol sales in grocer stores. However, Legislation was put forth in the early 1980's to protect small businesses. Currently, four Montgomery County grocery stores sell beer and wine today because they were licensed before the law changed. There are also some smaller chain stores that are licensed because they were the first location in the state (not yet considered a chain when licensed).
