The Criminal/Warrant Section investigates, locates and arrests approximately 3,000 fugitives per year for charges ranging from serious felonies to lesser offenses and misdemeanors. The Sheriff is responsible for serving all Circuit Court Warrants, District Court Civil Bench Warrants and District Court Criminal Warrants pertaining to Domestic Violence. The Criminal/Warrant Section maintains on-line warrant systems including National, State and Local systems. The Criminal/Warrant Section is also tasked with extraditions. When fugitives are arrested in jurisdictions outside of Montgomery County for outstanding warrants, the Sheriff takes custody of the person and returns the fugitive to Montgomery County for prosecution. The defendant is then taken before a commissioner or the court for purposes of bond or incarceration.
