Recording Fees Associated With a Deed in Montgomery County

There are several fees and taxes that must be paid at the time of transfer. County Transfer and Recordation Tax are paid at the Transfer/Recordation Tax Office located at: 27 Courthouse Square, Suite 200, Rockville, MD. 20850. Additional fees and State Transfer Tax are paid at the Courthouse Recording Office at 50 Maryland Avenue, 2nd floor, Rockville MD 20850 (check for hours of operation: 240.777.9470). For additional questions regarding fees, transfer, or taxes; call: 240.777.8995.

E-recording is using the Simplifile system, and the paper documents are to be dropped into the black mailbox in the lobby of the Transfer/Recordation Tax Office with the taxpayer or abstractor (someone who works for an attorney or title company) information is attached. A department representative will contact the resident/abstractor when the work is complete.

The third link below is for the Simplifile link (the E-Transfer system is no longer used since July 1, 2020).

Effective 10/1/2023 as a result of Bill 17-23 passing, recordation tax rates will be adjusted effective October 1, 2023 to new rates, also the Simplifile system will handle documents at these new rates. If the document has not been uploaded into the Simplifile system prior to 9/30/2023 it must go directly to the Transfer Office for processing to receive the previous rates.
