In May, the County was alerted to levels of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl (PFAS) in streams in this area. The levels reported are substantially higher than is expected in a natural environment. Ingesting stream water and consuming fish from it pose health risks. PFAS, often referred to as "forever chemicals," are humanmade chemicals used since the 1940s in a wide range of everyday products and may increase the risk for certain types of cancer.
