FAQs for Cable Downed Wires and Broken Cable Equipment

The Department of Technology and Enterprise Business Solutions (TEBS) handles complaints about wires that are NOT in the public right-of-way, as well as issues with cable pedestals or junction boxes, such as open or damaged boxes, exposed wires in front yards, or behind houses and townhouses.

Here are some FAQs and responses for what happens when a report is made:

When will it be fixed? The Cable TV providers have 30 days to repair the violation.

Who is responsible for the repair? The cable TV provider is responsible for the repair.

What will the County do about it? The County sends a violation to the cable TV provider.

Who in the County oversees these lines? If you have a physical issue (like a sagging line, a line down in your yard, or a broken ped), you should contact your cable service provider (such as Comcast Xfinity, RCN/Astound or Verizon) directly.

Since the County allows these lines, what happens if they are not fixed? The cable TV providers are responsible for the maintenance and repair of their aerial and underground equipment. Once a violation is reported the cable operator sends a crew to repair the issue. To report cable complaints, online users can submit a complaint to TEBS about downed wires and open or damaged cable boxes located in front yards or behind houses and townhouses, not in the public right-of-way, by clicking the "Create Service Request" button below. Please provide your name, address, telephone number, and email address. Additional addresses can be added in the "Brief Description" field if the complaint involves a construction issue.
