Access to Privately Owned Businesses, Non-profit Organizations, Buildings and Other Facilities

The Americans with Disabilities Act is enforced by the Department of Justice. Title III of the ADA prohibits discrimination based on disability in places of public accommodation (private sector businesses, non-profit agencies) and in commercial facilities. This means that most businesses, restaurants, movie theaters, professional offices, medical offices, stores and other privately owned facilities or newly constructed buildings or alterations should be accessible to persons with disabilities. For questions pertaining to access to privately owned facilities (buildings, offices, apartments or condominiums) or services, please contact the ADA Technical Assistance Center at 800.949.4232 (V/TTY), e-mail adainfo@transcen.org. Discrimination complaints are handled by the Montgomery County Office of Human Rights.
