Definition of Control Period on a Moderately Priced Dwelling Unit (MPDU)

The control period is a set period of time beginning on the settlement date of initial sale of the MPDU and ending 10, 15, 30 years into the future depending on when the MPDU was purchased. During the control period, MPDU owners must live in the MPDU, cannot rent out the MPDU, and if the owner chooses to sell the MPDU, it must be sold through the MPDU program at a price determined by the County.

In general, if the MPDU was purchased prior to 2005, the control period is either 10 or 15 years. If the MPDU was purchased after 2005, the control period is 30 years. If you are unsure when the control period expires for your MPDU, MC311 will forward a request to the staff at MPDU.
