Curbing is a component of roadway drainage design. Streets may be designed as either closed-section (with curbing) or open-section (no curbing). MCDOT will assess the existing conditions of the street and determine the feasibility of new curb installation. Curb requests may be approved on open-section roads lacking roadside ditches/swales to resolve an existing drainage issue or a safety concern. Curb requests are not approved for 1) aesthetic purposes, 2) preventing parking on the shoulder, and/or 3) on streets with existing roadside ditches/swales.
Please submit any curb request to the Drainage Assistance Request program by following the link below. If curbing is requested for an entire street, the request must originate from the Homeowners Association or Community Association. If the street is not within an association, notification and consent of affected property owners will be required.
Any request for the repair of existing curbs should be forwarded to Division of Highway Services (use keywords ?curb repair? when searching the web portal). Highway Services is responsible for maintaining, repairing or replacing the existing infrastructure and not installing new curbs.
If the road is a numbered route such as Rte. 355, 117, please contact Maryland State Highway at 301.513.7300 or 800.749.0737, or place a service request through the link below.
