The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) will soon begin bus shelter replacement work at Shady Grove East Metrorail Station as part of its Bus Shelter Replacement Program. This project will replace existing bus shelters with newer, modern shelters designed to improve comfort, safety, and accessibility for customers.
Phase 1 of construction, impacting bus Shelter A (Routes 73, 79, 90) temporary stop T1 is scheduled for January 5-16 and Shelter B (Route 53, 58, 65, 71 78) temporary stop T2, is scheduled for January 5 - 16.
Phase 2 of construction impacting bus Shelter C (Routes 74, 76) temporary stop T1 and Shelter D (Routes 43, 60, 64) temporary stop T2, is scheduled for January 20-February 6.
During construction some bus bays at Shady Grove East will be temporarily closed in phases. Ride On, Metrobus, and other transit providers may operate from temporary or alternate bus bays. Temporary bus stops will be ADA-compliant but may not include shelters or benches while work is underway. Bus bay changes are scheduled to occur early Monday mornings (around 3 a.m.) to reduce impacts during the morning commute. Clear signs will be posted throughout the station to direct riders to the correct boarding locations, and buses will continue to serve all routes.
