The Maryland State Department of Assessments & Taxation (SDAT) has issued penalty notices to owners of commercial real property valued at $5 million or more who failed to submit Income and Expense Statements for the past three years.
- These penalties are mandated under Section 8-105 of the Tax Property Article and may be up to 0.1% of the property's assessed value.
- SDAT previously sent two certified mailings with deadlines to submit the required information.
- Property owners may reduce the penalty by submitting the completed Income Questionnaire immediately.
- If the questionnaire has already been submitted, owners should contact SDAT to resolve any discrepancies.
- A written appeal can be filed within 30 days of the notice, directed to the Supervisor of Assessments.
- The penalty bill will be issued by the County Tax Collector, and payments should be made directly through the Montgomery County Real Property Tax Portal.
