Curbside Exemption Request

Households that receive County-provided recycling or refuse service that cannot bring their recycling or trash containers to the curb may be granted an exemption and have the material collected at an alternate location. The individual will be interviewed by a member of the DEP Recycling and Resource Management field staff to confirm eligibility and go over the rules of the program. Individuals requesting curbside exemption status should be advised of the rules of the program which are:

There must be no one living in the residence that is physically able to bring the containers to the curb.

Recycling alternate pick-up location (and trash if applicable) must be visible from the street.

Typical approved locations are front of house, top of driveway, garage door/carport etc.

Individuals will be given a yellow bin in place of their blue bin to indicate that their point of collection is different. This is a visual cue to the collection vehicle driver(s).

Yard trim must still be placed at the curb for collection.

Scrap metal must still be placed (and scheduled) at the curb for collection.

Bulk trash (if applicable and scheduled) must be placed at the curb for collection.

Trash (if applicable) must be in bags. No small plastic bags i.e. shopping bags. No loose trash in cans.

A clear path from the curb to the alternate point of collection must be provided at all times. Crews will not walk through snow or over ice to provide service.

Due to verification requirements that can only be conducted by a Customer Service Representative at MC311, an online service request cannot be created online for this service. Please call 311 to request a yellow bin or make a curbside exemption request.
