Common indoor air pollution problems include odors and fumes, mold, and dust or other particulate matter. The code does not apply to the residential use of personal hygiene products, or residential cooking odors and smoking in a private home. Please note smoking in a private home includes tobacco, marijuana, and other substances smoked or vaped for recreational and medicinal purposes.

Smoking complaints in common areas (indoor or outdoor) should be referred to Health and Human Services, Licensure and Regulatory Office. Please see the topic entitled: Smoking Ban Regulations and Complaints

Depending on the nature of the indoor air problem, the issue may be investigated by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) or the Department of Housing and Community Affairs (DHCA).
