The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) has a Police Ride-Along Program. To be eligible to participate in the Ride along participants must be county residents, or participants of the Citizens Academy, the Community Academy, or Leadership Montgomery and be at least 16 years of age. Participation is limited to the Police district in which the resident resides and a ride along is allowed once every six months unless otherwise approved by the district/unit commander.
A ride-along application must be completed at the local District station, where it is processed and approved (see first link below). The application includes a criminal background check for adults and juveniles, and requires a valid ID. The rider's ID will be required prior to commencing the ride-along.
The Ride-Along program is available year-round except during periods of increased workloads or personnel shortages. Ride-along operations are offered any day of the week between 6:00 AM to noon and 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Changes to these hours may be made at the discretion of the district or unit commander. District/unit commanders are responsible for scheduling ride-along participants within their units.
