All cats and dogs over the age of four months require a County pet license. To apply for a Pet License online, please click on the second link below. Pet Licenses can also be obtained by mailing the application, a current rabies certificate, and the appropriate fee to the Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center, 7315 Muncaster Mill Rd., Derwood, MD 20855. Applications are available online, at many veterinary hospitals, and at the County animal shelter. Fees for both dogs and cats are free for those under the age of 1 year; $12 per year for altered pets and $25 per year for unaltered pets.

Residents of Rockville City and Gaithersburg City are exempt from County pet licensing but need to license their pets with the Animal Control agency of the municipality in which they reside. All other locations in the County have to license their cats or dogs with Montgomery County.
