Maryland Health Connection (MHC) is the State's online enrollment system that helps Maryland residents and their families, between the ages of 18 and 65 obtain health insurance coverage. Open enrollment for 2023 private health insurance plans is now closed. If you are eligible for Medicaid, you can apply any time of the year.
Marylanders are eligible for a special enrollment period when they file their taxes and check a box on their state tax form or if they have certain life changes, such as getting married, becoming ineligible for Medicaid or losing job-based coverage' among others. One may apply for Medicaid through MHC at any time of the year; if one does not qualify, MHC would determine eligibility for a Qualified Health Plan (QHP). See link below. Customers who are not eligible for health care through MHC may apply to one of the low income clinics. Note: residency status is considered as part of the application process.
