The Federal Refugee Cash Assistance program serves financially needy refugees, and is intended as a program of last resort. A refugee is someone who is persecuted or fears persecution due to race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group.
Benefits help refugees and asylees adjust to their first eight months in the United States. Refugees new to Montgomery County will be served at the Suburban Washington Refugee Resettlement Center and coverage on an emergency-only basis may be available to undocumented persons who meet all eligibility requirements except citizenship.
