A Welfare Avoidance Grant or a WAG grant, is financial assistance provided in a lump sum to customers, who are eligible for Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) and who are in the process of applying. When a customer applies for TCA and they inform the TCA orientation worker that they either have a job and something is preventing them from keeping it or they cannot begin a job because something is preventing them from starting the job, a solution for the customer may be a WAG grant. If the need is something that the grant can cover, TCA can be approved for up to 6 months based on the size of the TCA eligible household membership.
A WAG is not utilized to supplement a household's income; it is utilized to resolve employment dilemmas.
