New Residential Permit Parking Area

Residents may request the creation of a residential parking permit zone. To establish a residential permit parking area: please submit a written request from the residents/or the civic association to the Department of Transportation (DOT)/Traffic Engineering (100 Edison Park Drive, 4th Floor, Gaithersburg, MD 20878) requesting establishment of a parking permit area. The written request must include a petition indicating approval of at least two thirds of the houses on each of the initial blocks that desire permit parking. DOT will evaluate the request to confirm that boundaries of the proposed permit area have been established and then notify the civic association of its recommendations. A public hearing fee of $250 is required from the civic association. DOT will schedule a public hearing (public hearing fee is waived if area is designated as Metro-impact by DOT).

Finally, the County Executive issues a written decision following submission of the hearing record. If approved, the appropriate signs are installed and permits issued to residents requesting such. The entire process takes approximately eight months to one year. For further information, please refer to the link below.
