Private Educational Institution License Commonly Known as PEI

A private educational institution (PEI) is any private school or educational or training institution, however designated, which offers a program of college, professional, preparatory, high, intermediate, elementary, kindergarten or nursery school instruction, or any combination thereof, or any other program of trade, technical or artistic training. Any person desiring to operate a PEI in Montgomery County for (5) five or more students at one time, or with more than one Instructor, must obtain a license.

New and renewing applicants should complete an application (see links below) Submit a copy of their Use and Occupancy Permit and Fire Marshall Approval; and Pay the License Fee.

Applicants may also apply at: 2425 Reedie Drive, 9th Floor, Wheaton, MD. 20902, between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM Monday through Friday. It takes about 30 days to issue a license.
