License Fees for Residential Rental Facilities Effective July 1, 2019

The Licensing and Registration year is July 1st through June 30th of each year. The fee is not pro-rated for a partial rental period. The entire Rental Licensing Fee is due if the property is rented for any period between July 1-June 30. The fee schedule for Rental Licenses is as follows:

Multifamily License=$47 per unit in apartment complex or accessory apartment approved by special exception and $64 per unit for others (Condominium Units and Piggy Back Townhomes) .

Single Family License=$114 per unit.

New owners of licensed rental housing may transfer the unexpired portion of the license within 15 days of taking ownership by paying Transfer Fee of $10 per unit. Class 3 Accessory Dwelling Unit License $111 per unit.

Filing Fee = $250 of which $125 is refundable if Director finds it doesn't meet zoning requirements.

Class 3 ADU Sign Fee=$220 of which $110 is refundable if sign returned within 30 days at end of posting period & the sign is clean, not damaged and in reusable condition.

Lost Sign Fee=Additional $220.

Transfer Fee for Accessory Apartment=$250.

Rental License and COC Renewal Bills are sent out July 1st and contain the customer's email, contact ID (if needed) and License or Registration Number along with the fee that is due. Renewal payments are accepted online or in-person starting July 1st for the new fiscal year and due no later than July 31.

If paying by mail or in person. Only checks or money orders payable to Montgomery County, MD are accepted.

If paying online the fees may be paid by Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, OR E-Check.

Refund requests must be made in writing within 90 days of payment with proof of payment from bank to DHCA's Licensing and Registration Office, 1401 Rockville Pike, 4th Floor, Rockville, MD 20852.
