Burial Assistance

Housing Stabilization Services within Services to End and Prevent Homelessness (SEPH) offers limited assistance of up to $650 for the cost of funeral arrangements to low-income Montgomery County residents. Family member or authorized representative of the deceased must complete an application, and an interview conducted by phone.

The deceased must have resided in Montgomery County; the funeral must be arranged with a local funeral home, and the total cost of the funeral home services cannot exceed $2,500.00. Applicants should hold off on making arrangements/payments until office representatives can discuss the circumstances. The Department cannot reimburse any expenses already paid for.

Another option for COVID-19 related funeral expenses is FEMA financial assistance for deaths which occurred after January 20, 2020. The program may cover expenses paid for after that date and is not income dependent. Contact the office at: 1.844.684.6333, or see second link below for complete information on how to apply.

Online users who have additional questions and would like to be contacted by departmental staff at SEPH may submit a request by clicking on the Create Service Request button below.
