Residential street sweeping/winter cleanup, will begin in April to remove winter abrasives and other debris from County streets, reduce pollutants in the Chesapeake Bay, improve the appearance of neighborhoods, improve the safety of streets and reduce maintenance costs by keeping the drainage systems clean through July. This is a joint effort between the Department of Transportation and Department of Environmental Protection to reduce the effects of pollutants in vulnerable watersheds.
Brightly colored signs are posted in neighborhoods a few days before street sweeping begins. To improve the quality of service and the effectiveness of the sweeping program, vehicle owners are urged to find alternative parking while their streets are cleaned.
