Illegal Fireworks

It is illegal for any person to manufacture, possess, store, offer for sale, sell, discharge, use, burn or explode any type of fireworks in Montgomery County, Maryland, except for an authorized display that may be conducted by a licensed pyrotechnic professional with a permit. Penalties for violations of the law include a fine up to $1,000 and/or six months in jail. See Montgomery County Fire Safety Code: Section 22-70: Fireworks (second link) for specific information.

To report fireworks violations that are in progress, please call the non-emergency Police line at 301-279-8000. Do NOT call 911 unless there is a life-threatening emergency and/or immediate help is needed. Non-emergency 911 calls can delay getting assistance to people with actual emergencies.

To report a violation that is not in progress or to turn in fireworks, refer to the Office of Fire Explosive Investigators at 240-777-6383.
