All homes built after January 14, 2004 are required to have sprinklers. Montgomery County does not require sprinklers in existing single family dwellings that are being used as a residence unless they were built after the 2004 date. However, renovations to an existing home may require that a sprinkler system be installed. Please check with the Department of Permitting Services to see if the home renovations will require that a sprinkler system be installed.
