The Department of Permitting Services offers free deck maintenance inspections during the month of May, which is National Building Safety Month. These inspections are limited to the first 250 requests. Requests must be from the homeowner and must not be for a deck which has previously received a DPS deck inspection. Balconies are also excluded from the program. Requests will not be taken until May 1, 2024.

Requests received online are processed and assigned for inspections in the order in which they are received. After the online requests are processed, an inspection request is assigned to the residential inspection team, who does the actual scheduling of the inspection appointments with the homeowner, in the month of May or later. Please note! The demand for the deck inspections has been very high, therefore, a response from an inspector may be delayed for a period of a few weeks. Please be patient.

Residents may also complete a request online by clicking on the first link below and completing the online complaint form. In the "Description of Complaint" field, please write "Request Deck Maintenance Inspection". Requests cannot be made anonymously as the caller's first and last name; home address and contact information is needed. Please note that online inspection requests submitted before May 1, 2024 will not be accepted.
