Beginning Sunday, February 1, 2026, all Montgomery County taxicabs including wheelchair accessible vehicle taxicabs will implement a rate change from $2 per mile to $2.50 per mile. The initial taxicab meter charge or drop rate is $4 and passengers are then charged 0.50 for each succeeding 1/5 mile, in addition to any waiting and traffic delay charges ($28 an hour). A $1 nighttime surcharge from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM. In addition, when a snow emergency is declared, taxicabs providing service are permitted to charge an additional $2.50 per trip. It is appropriate to offer a tip to a taxi driver for receiving good service, but a tip is not mandatory. There is no charge for use of a taxicab trunk unless the driver is loading and unloading a customer's packages. The charge for Personal service for loading items is $1. There is a charge of $1 for more than one passenger in the same party. There is no charge for children younger than five years of age when accompanied by an adult or for a personal care attendant accompanying a person with disabilities.
