Building Energy Performance Standard Definition

A Building Energy Performance Standard requires owners of existing buildings to meet energy or carbon reduction targets by actively improving the energy performance of their property. These targets can include reductions in energy, emissions, and/or energy demand. Three jurisdictions in the U.S. have adopted a performance standard (the District of Columbia, New York City, and the State of Washington). To date, Montgomery County has not yet adopted a performance standard for existing buildings.
