The County's noise law phases out the sale and use of handheld, backpack, and walk behind gas-powered leaf blowers and leaf vacuums. These cannot be sold in Montgomery County starting July 1, 2024, or used starting July 1, 2025. The Department of Environmental Protection encourages property owners and landscapers to begin the transition to electric leaf blowers now. All leaf blowers are subject to a decibel limit of 70dBa at a distance of 50 feet. Gas-powered leaf blowers can be recycled at the Shady Grove transfer station.
