Maryland Department of Agriculture - Bee Keeping

Bee keeping is regulated by the Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA). Maryland Law requires everyone who keeps bees to register their colonies within 30 days of first obtaining a honeybee colony and then annually thereafter.

To obtain additional information, click on the link below or call the Plant Protection and Weed Management Section at 410.841.5920.

Please note: MDA does not remove hornet nests. If residents want a nest removed and aren't comfortable doing it themselves, they should contact a local pest control company.

To report a bee nest in a Montgomery County tree, select the topic: Bee Nest in County tree.
