The County does not remove trees whose roots have entered sewer lines. There must have been a pre-existing defect in the sewer line itself which allowed a root to penetrate a sewer line. Roots do get in and clog the line, but the actual problem lies with the condition of the line PRIOR to this clogging taken place. The growing tip of the tree root is very tender and could not possibly cause a break in any type of pipe. Roots must enter the sewer line through a defect or poor joint. For this reason, the tree is not considered at fault and is not removed. Should the defective sewer or poor joint be located on the homeowner's property, then he/she must bear the responsibility of repairing the sewer line.
