Energy and Environmental Design-Property Tax Credit Description (Green Buildings)

This tax credit, introduced as the Green Building tax credit, may be granted against the General County real property tax and special service area taxes, based upon a building achieving one of ten qualified ratings for energy efficient buildings. See website for qualifications (see first URL below), tax credit application (see second URL below), and Intent to Apply form (see third URL below).

Effective December 30, 2020: The Property Tax Credit for Energy and Environmental Design will be sunset by January 1, 2025. On or before January 1, 2022, a building owner must either submit a completed application for this Property Tax Credit or submit this Application of Intent to Apply for this Property Tax Credit.

After January 1, 2022: Only buildings on the Intent to Apply applicant list can receive this Property Tax Credit. Buildings applying for the LEED-EB credit must submit their completed application by January 1, 2023. Buildings applying for the LEED-CS or LEED-NC credit must submit their completed application by January 1, 2024.

Please note: The Intent to Apply form allows building owners who made business decisions with the assumption they?d earn this tax credit to "get in line" for the credit if they are not ready to submit a completed application itself.
