In April 2022, Montgomery County adopted a building performance energy performance standard (BEPS) for existing commercial and multifamily buildings 25,000 gross square feet and greater (Bill 16-21) that requires these buildings to meet long-term site energy use intensity targets, a measure of annual energy use per square foot.
