Social Security, Medicare, Social Security Disability and Supplemental Security Income

Medicare is a federal program, providing health insurance to people receiving Social Security income (SSA), Social Security Disability Income (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Medicare D is now called the "Extra Help Program" which help pay for prescription drug plan costs. Applications for these programs are accepted at the social security administration office. Please review SSA's web page or call 1.800.772.1213. Individuals may apply for social security at age 61 and 9 months and Medicare at age 64 and 8 months.
