Remote Speed Monitoring

Residents may request deployment of a Department of Transportation S.M.A.R.T. unit (Speed Monitoring Awareness Radar Trailer) to assist in educating motorists as to the speed that they are traveling on neighborhood streets. DOT will deploy this unit on Secondary and Primary Residential roads and occasionally on two lane Arterial roads upon request. This unit is placed on the roadway for a period of up to five (5) days, Monday through Friday. The unit is placed facing one direction on Monday, turned to the opposite direction on Wednesday and placed back to the original direction on Friday until its removal later that day. This unit may be requested for a repeat schedule in three months as scheduling allows. It is Department of Transportation policy not to deploy this unit on weekends; holidays or from December 15th through January 2nd.

If the road is a numbered route such as Rte. 355, 117, please contact Maryland State Highway at 301.513.7300.
