Maryland Health Connection (aka as Obama Care) is for residents of Maryland between the ages of 18 and 64, who do not have affordable health care or cannot find health care through work or on their own.
At the present time, open enrollment is closed, EXCEPT for those who have a qualifying life event or received a letter dated: June 10, 2014 regarding termination of Medicaid. To enroll during the special enrollment, call: 1.855.642.8572 (TTY: 855.642.8573). You can enroll at any time if you qualify for Medicaid. The next general enrollment begins November 15, 2014. However, one may enroll in private coverage through MHC or change a current plan if a qualifying life event or a complex situation exists. Call the MHC Call Center, number above for further information or see first link below for specifics.
Individuals who have questions about Expanded Medicaid status through MHC, should first call the Medicaid Health Choice Line: 1.800.977.7388 to determine if they are in the system. If a caller is not in the system, the status line may advise incorrectly to go to a local Health and Human Services office. Instead, call the local navigator office: 240.773.8250 for assistance.
Customers who applied and completed an MHC application and want to know their status (not MA) can call: 1.855.642.8572 (TTY 855.642.8573). To request status for life event change: 1.800.834.3817. Customers who applied prior to the March 31, 2014 deadline and received an extension in order to complete an application, can expect to be contacted by a navigator to schedule an appointment. For customers who applied and have been accepted into Medicaid, please dial the Maryland Health Choice Enrollee Action line at: 1.800.284.4510. See link below for additional Health Choice phone numbers.
For other health care options prior to the next open enrollment date, consider the low income clinics, or, if one is aged, blind or disabled, consider applying for Medicaid through HHS.
