Welfare Avoidance Grant or WAGFind more information from the following link(s):
A Welfare Avoidance Grant or WAG, is financial assistance provided in a lump sum to customers, who are technically eligible for Temporary Cash Assistance and who have an immediate crisis that is preventing them from working, and may be used to prevent someone from needing to receive TCA . WAGs can be utilized for an employment-related crisis to prevent job loss or to assist in obtaining employment. Some examples are loss of employment due to childcare registration fees or lack of transportation to and from work because of work hours. Customers who receive Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) are ineligible. Customers who request this grant must be referred by an Income Supports worker, therefore, one should apply for TCA. Please refer customer to an income supports office, based on zip codes. See list below in link.
