Effective January 1, 2015, all residential rental properties must meet new requirements of the state Lead Poisoning Prevention Program in order to be licensed.
All Rental dwellings built before January 1, 1978 must obtain a Registration/Tracking number from the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE). Please click on link # 2 below or call the MDE at 800.633.6101 or 410.537.4199 for further information about the registration process and obtaining a Registration/Tracking number.
Rental dwellings built between 1950-1977 with tenant(s) who moved in before January 1, 2015 do not need a Lead Inspection Certificate until new tenant(s) move in.
Rental dwellings built before January 1, 1978 with tenant(s) who moved in after January 1, 2015 need a Lead Inspection Certificate from MDE.
Rental dwellings built before January 1, 1978 with tenant(s) who moved in less than 12 months, need a Lead Inspection Certificate from MDE.
Please note that the deadline for returning the Annual Lead Poisoning Prevention Checklist to DHCA has been extended until March 31, 2015. The completed checklist may be faxed to 240.777.3699.
