Bay Restoration Fund Fee Explained
Maryland Senate Bill 320 (Bay Restoration Fund) was signed into law in 2004 to address Bay restoration. The Chesapeake Bay Restoration Fund created a dedicated fund administered by the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) for upgrading the 66 largest wastewater treatment plants to Enhanced Nutrient Reduction (ENR) standards and to improve the water quality of the Chesapeake Bay.

The Bay Restoration Fund fee is a nominal environmental surcharge set on homeowners and businesses in Maryland to fund these upgrades. For more information, please go to the Maryland Department of the Environment's website to find the Senate Bill 320 that established the "Bay Restoration Fund" or visit the "Chesapeake Bay Restoration Act" section. Additional information is available by calling the State of Maryland at 1.800.633.6101.
