Screening and Assessment Services for Children and Adolescents SASCAFind more information from the following link(s):
Screening and Assessment Services for Children and Adolescents (SASCA) conducts confidential assessments for substance abuse for children up to age 17, who live in Montgomery County Maryland. Referrals are made for treatment. Although SASCA does not do a full psychiatric evaluation and provide a mental health diagnosis, the assessment does cover essential mental health areas (for example: questions are asked about suicidal and/or homicidal ideation or attempts; hospitalizations; medications; previous mental health treatment, etc.) The evaluation is one hour and includes a urine drug test (no other drug testing is conducted). There is no fee for the service but there may be a fee for other services the screener recommends, however, a sliding scale may be available. Office hours are: 8:30 AM ? 5 PM Mondays and Fridays, and from 10:30 AM ? 7 PM on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Although SASCA does not handle acting out children/adolescents, one can go to SASCA to determine if drugs or alcohol are involved and/or if family issues are part of the problem. The screener at SASCA can assist in registering children in their program, with drug education programs and classes. SASCA will see an eighteen year old, if they are in high school and living at home. If this is not the case, the ACCESS program can provide information and referral.
