The African American Health Program (AAHP) offers self management classes; one on one counseling with a certified diabetes educator; and culturally delivered dining clubs to help prevent and manage diabetes. Classes include educational materials, hands-on activities to learn carbohydrate counting, and blood glucose monitoring skills. The AAHP class series is accredited by the American Association of Diabetes Educators. One-on-one counseling is available to assist clients with developing individualized treatment, nutrition and exercise plans. Monthly dining clubs also offer a welcoming environment in which to learn the latest information on diabetes management and meet others facing similar health issues.
