Building Permit for Commercial Retaining Wall

A permit is required to install a retaining wall if the height of the wall measured from the bottom of the footing to the top of the wall is 54 inches or more or any height retaining wall that supports a surcharge. The application packet must include two (2) copies of a site plan, and two copies of the structural drawings. The structural drawings must be signed and sealed by the engineer of record for the design of the wall, and must include the height of the wall and finished grade. The site plans must show where the retaining wall will be located on the property, the distance to the property line, any easements, and any existing utilities that run through or are in the zone of influence . The purpose of the site plan is to determine whether or not the zoning setback requirements for the location and height of the fence / retaining wall have been met.
